George Tomlinson says:
I’m writing to let you know about recent developments at the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy (CRMEP) at Kingston University London, including the introduction of a new MA programme and a new round of MA scholarships. I would be very grateful if you would pass this message on to colleagues in your programme, in particular to undergraduates considering an MA programme in continental philosophy, critical theory or the philosophy of art.
The CRMEP now hosts the largest single concentration of scholars working in Modern European Philosophy in the UK. Earlier this year we appointed two new colleagues, Professor Howard Caygill (formerly at Goldsmiths, University of London) and Professor Catherine Malabou (formerly at the University of Paris-X Nanterre), in the context of a collaboration with a new research unit in Contemporary European Philosophy in the Philosophy Department at the University of Paris-VIII, St-Denis.
This year, we have 60 MA students registered at the CRMEP, and from September 2012 we will be running four distinct MA programmes: in Modern European Philosophy, Philosophy and Contemporary Critical Theory, Aesthetics and Art Theory, and a new MA (taught together with Paris-VIII) in Contemporary European Philosophy. We will begin taking applications for this new MA in April 2012; applications to the existing programmes are already open.
Full-time students taking the new MA in Contemporary European Philosophy will spend the autumn semester with us in London, and the spring semester in Paris taking classes at Paris-VIII. It will include an autumn semester core course, dealing mainly with texts published in the last decade or so, taught as far as possible in the original languages (primarily French, but also in Italian & German with accompanying translations in English or French). Details for all our modules can be found at http://fass.kingston.ac.uk/research/crmep/taught-courses/. Graduates of our MA programmes have gone on to pursue a wide range of careers in research, education, the arts, public policy and the media.
We are also advertising three Philosophy MA scholarships for next year (worth £2,000 each), with a deadline of Friday 18 May 2012. All MA applications received by that date will be considered automatically for the scholarships. Again, I hope that you might forward this announcement on to potential applicants in your department or faculty.
You will find more information about the scholarships, and about the Centre, its staff, its research events and its MA alumni on our webpage at http://fass.kingston.ac.uk/
research/crmep/ .As before, please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. If you haven’t already, please let me know if you are interested in being put on our email list for occasional notices about CRMEP events and research seminars.
Yours with best wishes,
George Tomlinson
